Bhopal’s cyber-crime branch said Monday that it had arrested the absconding head of a Shivpuri-based racket that bought SIM cards using forged ID documents and then sold them on to online fraudsters based in Delhi. Police say the accused bought SIM cards for Rs 50 each using forged Aadhar cards and sold them for Rs 500 each. Officers report that the accused have admitted to providing more than 1,500 SIM cards using forged IDs in the past four months. Deepak Sahu, of Karera in Shivpuri, has been identified as the alleged head. According to cyber police, criminals in Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan used SIM cards issued by Shivpuri to commit fraud online.
