According to the agency, a new banking virus known as EventBot is spreading on android phone. It is a mobile trojan that steals data information from banking and other financial apps. It also gains control over victim’s mobile phone and reads PIN.
EventBot targets over 200 different apps including banking apps, money transfer services and cryptocurrency wallets and other financial apps.
But good news is that most of these apps are based in the US and Europe region at the moment, But beware: Some services may affect Indian users as well. As per Cert-In, EventBot largely targeting financial apps like Paypal Business, Revolut, Barclays, UniCredit, CapitalOne UK, HSBC UK, TransferWise, Coinbase, paysafecard etc.
Eventbot is not spreading through android playstore. It can effect your phone, if you download the application from website which poses like legitimate applications such as Microsoft Word, Adobe flash etc.
Eventbot virua can read notifications of other installed apps and read their content as well. Over the time, it can also read LockScreen and in-app PIN that gives hackers more control over the victim’s device.
How to protect ourselves from eventbot virus:
- Download application from playstore only.
- Before downloading any app check the developer name, contact details ects
- Dont download applications from websites.
